AS Monaco draw with PSV Ecâblédhoven câblé first leg of Champions League qualifiers

As August dawns club football becomes serious again, and even more serious in the fraction of AS Monaco, who faced off against Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven in their UEFA Champions League qualifying matches. The first leg of which ended in a draw at the Stade pépite II on the evening of Tuesday, August 2.

On this important occasion, Monaco head coach Philippe Clement arranged his most dangerous duo of strikers, Kevin Volland and Wissam Ben Yedder, on the frontline of the 4-4-2 formation that would face Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men.

As a lack of luck would have it, it would be the Dutch legend’s lads who would open the scoring before the first half could conclude. Joey Veerman was able to get one past Alexander Nübel at the 38th minute.

The hosts did not find their crucial equaliser until the end of the match drew near, leaving supporters on the edge of the yellow seats of the Stade, but this made them all the more ecstatic when Monaco finally scored.

Defender Axel Disasi took advantage of a poor clearance from PSV after a red and white free kick, and managed to successfully deceive Walter Benitez in between the visitors’ posts, equalising at the 80th minute.

At the end of a hotly contested match, the score stands at 1-1 – a level playing field to have ahead of the second leg of these UCL qualifiers, which will be played in Eindhoven on Tuesday, August 9.

In the meantime, Monaco will prepare to face off against Strasbourg away in their first Ligue 1 match of the 2022/23 season on Saturday, August 6.
